Casino revenue at casinos around the country seems to be stabilizing in the past couple of months. That is evident in the figures released Wednesday by the Mississippi State Tax Commission.

Mississippi casino had a decrease in revenue from November, but it was not a big loss. In December, revenue was $185 million at state casinos. The loss from month to month was only $470,000, which could have just meant a difference in luck for gamblers in December.

The figure is, however, down almost nine million dollars from October, and the yearly figure was also down. In 2009, casino revenue in Mississippi was $2.46 billion, compared to $2.72 billion in 2008. It was late 2008 when the economic crisis in the US started to really affect casino revenue in the country.

Casinos that are located along the Mississippi River fared better than those along the Gulf Coast. The Mississippi River casinos had an increase of revenue, up from $98.2 million in November, to $101.4 million in December.

The Gulf Coast casinos had a decrease in revenue of almost four million dollars. The November revenue was $87.2 million at the Gulf Coast casinos, while December revenue slipped to $83.5 million.

Gulf Coast casinos are still recovering from Hurricane Katrina, which devastated the area several years ago. Louisiana casinos were the hardest hit by the storm, and they are still in the process of re-establishing their casino industry.
