While Governor Robert Riley continues to attack the gambling industry in Alabama, the residents that voted Riley into office continue to show that they are in favor of regulated gambling.

The latest poll to be released was from the Public affairs Research Council of Alabama. The data from the poll indicates that seventy-two percent of Alabamians favor a regulated system of gambling in the state, while only twenty-five percent of those polled want to outlaw gambling.
It is part of a constantly changing opinion on gambling that is occurring across the US. Ohio became the latest state to legalize gambling after years of failed attempts by different pro-gambling groups. Still, Governor Riley disputes the results of the poll.
"Well, I've been around long enough to know it all depends on how you frame the question," said Riley, "I think you can get about any answer you want depending on how you ask the question."
Indeed, that is the case, but something Riley cannot dispute is his sagging approval ratings. Since he began his quest to rid Alabama of its gambling establishments, Riley's approval numbers have plummeted.
The governor has set up his Task Force on Illegal Gambling at a time when many Alabama residents are counting on their jobs at these establishments to put food on the table for their families. The recent threat of raids have caused thousands of Alabama workers their paychecks.
Other lawmakers are not joining in Riley's crusade. Representative Marcel Black has proposed legislation that would allow the voters of Alabama to decide the fate of gambling in the state. Black's proposal is being backed by many legislators.
