Norovirus Disrupts Gambling At Harrah's Casino In North Carolina

Gambling has been interrupted at the Harrah's Cherokee Casino and Hotel in North Carolina after a norovirus has made hundreds of people sick. Employees have been working overtime to ensure the slot machines are kept germ free. >

It is not the economy that has slowed business at the Harrah's Cherokee Casino and Hotel in North Carolina at the end of this past week. Instead, it is a norovirus that has caused hundreds of patrons at the casino to become sick.

On Friday, workers were constantly washing down all of the slot machines in the casino after almost 250 people have reported sicknesses since the middle of January. The casino has over 3,000 slot machines, all of which have been wiped down constantly.

Officials from the casino claim that the cause for the sicknesses is a norovirus. It is the type virus that usually breaks out on cruise ships, but somehow it has stricken many customers at the North Carolina casino.

The common symptoms of this type of virus are diarrhea and vomit ting. Many of the people who have reported their symptoms claim to have experienced harmful effects from the outbreak. The casino is working to rid the machines and other areas of the problem.

Although it has been reported as a widely spread problem, the casino deals with over 7,000 customers a day. The nearly 250 people who have been affected by the virus represent a small percentage of the customers that attend the casino on a daily basis.
